Take a thrilling journey out across the cosmos with astronomer Seb Jay as your narrator and guide. Seb uses the latest in planetarium software to transport audiences on an epic voyage through deep space. His 20+ years of stargazing experience, along with his robust knowledge of astronomy and planetary sciences, breathes life into his stargazing talks and presentations. With Seb you can weave your way around the planets and moons in our solar system, fly out to star systems and star clusters thousands of light years away, and travel back through time to the early universe.

Stargazing Talks & Presentations

Below are some of the stargazing talks and presentations available from Seb Jay. Seb is also happy to put together bespoke talks about specific stargazing / astronomical subjects, and can tailor talks to suit your audience.

Title: Adventures in Space

Suitable for: Children aged 7 – 12

The journey starts in familiar surroundings before moving out to the Moon,  planets and beyond. Some of the themes explored include the difference between planets and stars, why the planets orbit the Sun and how stars are born and grow old.

Suitable for: Children aged 11 – 16, Families, Adult & Children groups

Timing: 30 – 45 minutes

Description: A guided tour of the stars and constellations that we can see in the night sky on the date of the talk. We also pick out the best objects to see with binoculars and telescopes, and explore times in the following weeks and months to look out for planets in the night sky. Themes explored include night sky navigation, understanding the pole star / north star, and exploring how and why planets move against the background of stars.

Title: Exploring the Night Sky with a Telescope

Suitable for: Families, Adults & Stargazers

Timing: 45-60 minutes

Description: A journey out across the Universe as seen through a telescope. We visit the Moon and planets in our solar system and show what they look like visually in an 8-inch 200mm diameter reflector telescope with different magnification eyepieces. Our voyage continues outside our solar system as we push out through interstellar space to star systems, star clusters, nebulae and other galaxies far beyond our own. On each stop we show how these objects appear in a telescope to give the audience an idea of what they can look for with such an optical instrument. Themes explored include what it would be like to stand on the surface of different planets in the solar system, cosmic distances, how stars are born, how they evolve, and what happens to them when they reach the end of their lives.
