Are you an amateur astronomer with a passion for sharing your interest with others? If so we’d like to hear from you. At Dark Sky Telescope Hire we run private stargazing experience nights for individuals, couples, families and groups right across the UK. Following unprecedented demand for our experience nights we are now seeking knowledgeable and self-confident amateur astronomers to join our team in the UK as outreach astronomers / stargazing guides.
Working on a self-employed basis you’ll meet with clients in your local area that we have already booked for you to conduct a 1-hour or 2-hour stargazing experience in their back garden, or at a designated meeting point. The experience will follow a common format (training provided), and use telescope equipment that we can supply.
Remuneration of £80 – £125 per stargazing night completed is available.
About You
You will be a self-confident, organised and positive individual with an optimistic outlook, especially in regard to the weather! An intimate knowledge of the the night sky is preferred, but not essential as comprehensive training can be given. You must have the ability to engage with clients through story, and have the confidence to relate complex astronomical themes to the layperson in terms that they can identify with and understand.
Ideally applicants should have a minimum 1-year’s experience in a science communication or astronomy outreach role, or come from a customer facing sales or marketing role, ideally in a tourism-related industry or similar. Again this is preferred but not essential.
Own transport is essential.
